The aluminum substrate is one kind of metal-based copper-clad substrate with good heat dissipation function. Generally, a single panel consists of three layers, which are the circuit layer (copper foil), the insulation layer, and the metal base layer. Commonly used in LED lighting products. There are positive and negative sides, the white side is welded LED pins, and the other side shows the aluminum color, usually coated with thermally conductive gel paste after contact with the thermal conductive part.


At present, the general situation of aluminum-based PCB boards is a single-sided aluminum substrate. Aluminum substrate is only one type of PCB board. Aluminum-based metal panels are generally used in the LED industry because they have good thermal conductivity.

LED for PCB

The basic steps of LED PCB assembly include soldering - self-inspection - mutual inspection - cleaning - rubbing.

(1) Soldering

-Direction of the circuit board: face up, there are two inside and outside the junction of the end of the upper-left corner; -Direction of the circuit board: face up, there are two inside and outside the junction of the end of the upper-left corner

-Judgment of the direction of the lights in the circuit board: starting from the upper left light (clockwise rotation) in order of negative-positive → positive-negative → negative-positive → positive-negative.

-Soldering: careful welding, so that each soldering point is full, and clean, with no welding or leakage.


(2) Self-inspection

After completing the welding, first check whether the solder joints and leakage welding, and then touch the positive and negative endpoints of the circuit board with a multimeter (positive and negative), check whether the four LEDs are lit at the same time, the unqualified circuit boards for modification until all the circuit boards can work properly.


(3) Mutual Inspection

After the self-inspection, it is handed over to the person in charge of the inspection, in the case of the person in charge of the consent before flowing into the next process.


(4) Rubing

LED light circuit boards are removed one by one from the entire board, with fine sandpaper (if necessary, coarse sandpaper, but must seek the consent of the person in charge) to grind off the circuit board edge burrs, so that the circuit board can be flat into the fixed seat (the degree of friction according to the type of fixed seat to determine).


(5) Cleaning 

Brush the circuit board with 95% alcohol to wash away the residue on the board to keep the board clean.


The metal substrate is the supporting component of the aluminum-based LED PCB, which requires high thermal conductivity, generally aluminum, but also copper (of which copper can provide better thermal conductivity), suitable for drilling, punching and cutting, and other conventional mechanical processing. Suitable for power components surface mount SMT public art. No heat sink, greatly reduced volume, excellent heat dissipation, good insulation, and mechanical properties.


Application of high-power LED aluminum substrate PCB.

(1) Audio equipment: input and output amplifiers, balanced amplifiers, audio amplifiers, preamplifiers, power amplifiers, and so on.

(2) Power equipment: switching regulator, DC/AC converter, SW regulator, etc.

(3) Communication electronics equipment: high-frequency amplifiers, filtering appliances, transmitting circuits.

(4) Office automation equipment: motor driver, etc.

(5) Automobile: electronic regulator, ignition, power controller, etc.

(6) Computer: CPU boards, floppy disk drives, power supply units, etc.

(7) Power modules: converters, solid state relays, rectifier bridges, etc.
