Automotive PCBs are different from conventional PCBs and require high quality standards, following the IATF16949 automotive quality control system. So what are the points to pay attention to in the manufacturing process of car PCBs?
1. Material selection:
Choosing the right materials is crucial in the PCB manufacturing process. Firstly, it is important to select reliable substrate materials such as FR-4, aluminum substrates, etc., to ensure the stability and reliability of the PCB. Secondly, appropriate copper foil thickness and quality should be selected to meet the conductivity and heat dissipation requirements of the circuit board. In addition, attention should also be paid to selecting materials that comply with environmental requirements, avoiding the use of materials containing harmful substances.
2. Production process control:
The production process of PCB manufacturing includes schematic design, printing, plating, etching, drilling, soldering, and more. Strict control is required in each step to ensure product quality. For example, in the printing process, the temperature, pressure, and speed of the printing machine should be well-controlled to ensure printing quality. In the plating process, the concentration and temperature of the plating solution should be controlled to ensure the uniformity and adhesion of the plating layer.
3. Quality testing:
Quality testing is an essential part of the PCB manufacturing process. Multiple quality tests should be conducted during the production process to promptly detect and solve problems. Common quality testing methods include visual inspection, dimension measurement, and electrical testing. Moreover, advanced testing equipment and technologies such as X-ray inspection and infrared thermography can be used to improve the accuracy and efficiency of quality testing.
4. Environmental protection:
PCB circuit board factories produce a large amount of wastewater, exhaust gas, and waste during the production process. To protect the environment, appropriate measures should be taken for treatment and recycling. For example, establishing a wastewater treatment system to treat wastewater before discharge, installing exhaust gas treatment equipment to reduce the emission of harmful gases, and implementing waste classification and recycling to reduce environmental pollution.
PCB manufacturing factories need to pay attention to material selection, production process control, quality testing, and environmental protection during the production process. Only by taking these precautions can production efficiency and product quality be improved while also protecting the environment. Therefore, PCB manufacturing factories should strengthen management and monitoring in these aspects, continuously improve and perfect the manufacturing process to meet market demands and environmental requirements.

What are the important points to note during the manufacturing process of Automotive PCBA?
1. Understand the mechanism of relevant circuits:
Before inspecting and repairing circuits, it is important to be familiar with the functions of the circuits used, internal circuits, major power parameters, the roles of each pin, and the normal voltage, waveform, and peripheral component composition of the pins in order to understand the working principles of the circuit. With the above conditions, analysis and inspection will be much easier.
2. Pay attention to power and heat dissipation:
Power circuits should have good heat dissipation and should not be operated in a high power state without a heat sink.
3. Pay attention to the insulation performance of the soldering iron:
It is not allowed to use a live soldering iron for welding. Ensure that the soldering iron is not live, and it is best to ground the outer shell of the soldering iron. Caution should be taken with MOS circuits, and it is safer to use a low voltage soldering iron of 6-8V.
4. Ensure the quality of soldering:
Soldering should be firm, as solder accumulation and air holes can cause cold solder joints. The soldering time should generally not exceed 3 seconds, and the power of the soldering iron should be approximately 25W for internal heating types. Carefully inspect the soldered circuit and use an ohmmeter to measure if there are any short circuits between each pin before connecting the power supply.
5. Test instrument should have high internal resistance:
When measuring the DC voltage of circuit pins, use a multimeter with a head internal resistance greater than 20KΩ/V; otherwise, there may be larger measurement errors for certain pin voltages.
6. Avoid causing short circuits between pins:
When measuring voltage or testing waveforms with a oscilloscope probe, do not allow the test lead or probe to slide and cause a short circuit between circuit pins. It is best to perform measurements on the peripheral printed circuit directly connected to the pins. Any momentary short circuit can easily damage the circuit, so be careful when testing CMOS circuits in flat packages.
7. Do not easily conclude circuit damage:
Do not quickly assume that a circuit is damaged because the majority of circuits are directly coupled. If a certain circuit is abnormal, it can cause voltage changes in multiple locations, and these changes are not necessarily caused by circuit damage. Additionally, in some cases, if the measured voltages of each pin are similar to or close to the normal values, it does not necessarily mean that the circuit is functioning properly, as some soft faults may not cause changes in DC voltage.
Above are a few points to note in the manufacturing process of automotive PCB and PCBA. Of course, there are many other aspects that need to be addressed based on the specific problems encountered in actual production. iPCB can provide automotive PCB and PCBA manufacturing services, and we welcome inquiries.
