The current PCBA inspection methods are mainly the following five:

1.Manual visual inspection

Manual visual inspection is through the human vision and comparison to confirm the PCB circuit board electronic components mounted, this technology is one of the most widely used online inspection methods. However, with the increase in production and PCB circuit boards and electronic components shrinkage, this method is becoming less and less suitable. Low up-front costs and the absence of inspection fixtures are its main advantages. At the same time, the high long-term cost, discontinuous defect detection, data collection difficulties, powerless inspection and visual limitations are also the main drawbacks of this method.


2.Automated Optical Inspection (AOI)

This inspection method is also known as automatic visual inspection,usually used before and after the PCBA reflow soldering, is a relatively new method of confirming manufacturing defects, the polarity of the components, components whether the presence of the inspection effect is better. It is a non-electric,fixture-free online technology. Its main advantages are easy to follow the diagnosis, easy to develop the programme and no fixture.The main disadvantage is that the short circuit identification is poor, and is not electrical detection.

3.Functional test (Functional Test)

PCBA Functional Test is the earliest principle of automatic inspection, it is a specific PCB or specific unit of the basic inspection method,available in a variety of inspection equipment to complete. Functional test mainly has the final product test (Final Product Test) and the latest physical model (Hot Mock-up) two kinds.


4.Flying needle testing machine (Flying-Probe Tester)

Flying-Probe Tester, also known as Probe Tester,is also a commonly used inspection method.Due to the progress in mechanical accuracy,speed and reliability, it has been generally welcomed in the past few years. In addition, the current demand for rapid changeover,fixture-free inspection systems for prototype and low volume manufacturing has made flying probe inspection the best choice. Flying needle inspection machine's main advantage is that it is the fastest time to market (Time To Market) of the tool, automatic generation of inspection,no fixture costs,good diagnosis and easy programming.


5.Manufacturing Defect Analyzer (Manufacturing Defect Analyzer, MDA)

MDA is a high-volume / low-mixed environment used only to diagnose PCBA manufacturing defects in a good tool. The main advantages of this detection method is lower upfront cost, high output, easy to follow the diagnosis and fast and complete short circuit and open circuit detection. The main disadvantages are that functional inspection is not possible, there is usually no inspection overlay training, fixtures must be used, and inspection costs are high.
