As an entry-level RF PCB material, Rogers kappa 438 is compatible with FR4 PCB materials in its processing methods. Of course, due to the different internal materials, there are also some details that need to be paid attention to during processing, especially drilling.

Standard cover plate (aluminum plate or thin phenolic plate) and back plate (phenolic plate or fiberboard); processing ROGSR Kappa 438 double-sided or multi-layer PCB, one or more stacked boards can be used. Kappa 438 material is compatible with normal drilling parameters. However, drilling speeds exceeding 500 SFM should be avoided. For medium and large diameter drills, feed rates greater than 0.002" are recommended, while for small (<0.0135") diameter drills, smaller feed rates (<0.002") are recommended. Overall, standard geometry drills Superior to undercut drills because they are more effective at removing debris from the hole during drilling. Tool life should be based on inspection of the plated through hole (PTH) rather than the appearance of the tool. Kappa Gamma 438 Laminates Can Cause Accelerated Wear on Drills .However, the quality of the hole wall is mainly determined by the size of the distributed ceramic powder, not by the cutting edge of the drill bit.

Microwave materials manufacturer Rogers introduces kappa 438 laminate - designed for wireless design engineers looking for better performance and higher reliability alternatives to FR-4 PCBs! Kappa 438 laminate is a glass cloth reinforced hydrocarbon ceramic thermoset laminate. The dielectric constant (DK) complies with the FR-4 industrial standard, has excellent high-frequency performance and low loss. It can be processed using standard epoxy resin/glass (FR-4) technology and has low processing cost. It can easily replace existing FR-4-based designs. In addition, it features a UL 94 V-0 flame retardant rating, lead-free soldering process, highly consistent circuit performance, and tighter DK and thickness tolerance controls.

RThe dielectric constant of rogers kappa 438 is more stable in the 2-10GHz range, which can greatly reduce the design difficulty and shorten the design cycle in broadband product design.
