The ETC uninterrupted system includes RSU roadside units and OBU on-board units. RSU is generally set up near a highway toll station, and its main function is to locate and detect OBU equipment.

In order to improve the positioning accuracy of the RSU to the OBU, the new generation RSU uses phased array radar positioning technology. The radio frequency transceiver part of the RSU is designed as a phased array antenna, which has high requirements on PCB material loss factor, dielectric constant and thickness consistency. Rogers, the world's leading high-frequency circuit material supplier, provides RSU unit phased array antenna design. Two PCB material solutions with high cost performance and high performance.

Among them, the most cost-effective PCB laminate is RO4350B, which uses glass cloth to enhance the hydrocarbon resin/ceramic filler system. Its electrical properties are close to PTFE materials, and its processing performance is similar to FR-4 materials. The low-loss PCB laminate is RO4003C, which is also reinforced with glass cloth. The hydrocarbon resin/ceramic filler system, but the material is not brominated, so it does not pass UL 94V-0 certification. The following are the electrical performance parameters of the two materials.

ro4350b vs ro4003c

Judging from the electrical parameters of ro4350b and ro4003c circuit boards, ro4003c is better than ro4350b in terms of loss factor and dielectric constant temperature coefficient, but it does not have UL certification, so it can be used for RSU antenna design with higher loss requirements; ro4350b's performance is relatively balanced , suitable for the design of conventional RSU phased array antennas.

In summary, the RO4350B and RO4003C laminates produced by Rogers have the advantages of low loss, high dielectric constant stability, and strict batch consistency control, and can meet the antenna design requirements for different applications of RSU roadside units.
