How much does a PCB cost?
The diversity of PCB processing prices has its inherent inevitable factors. This article provides a rough price range for reference. Of course, the specific price should be directly contacted with the manufacturer.
Part 1: Various factors affecting the price of a PCB board
The price of PCB has always been a confusing thing for many buyers. Many people may also wonder how these prices are calculated when placing orders online. Let's talk about the components of PCB prices.
1. The price diversity caused by different materials used in PCB
Take ordinary double-sided boards as an example. The board material is generally FR4 (Shengyi, Jiantao, Guoji, three prices from top to bottom), the board thickness ranges from 0.2mm to 3.0mm, and the copper thickness varies from 0.5oz to 3oz. All of these have caused huge price differences in the board material; in terms of solder mask ink, there is also a certain price difference between ordinary thermosetting oil and photosensitive green oil.
2. Diversity of prices caused by different surface treatment processes
Common ones include: OSP (anti-oxidation), lead tinning, lead-free tinning (environmental protection), gold plating, immersion gold and some combination processes, etc. The prices of the above processes are more expensive as time goes by.
3. Diversity of prices caused by different difficulties of PCB itself
There are 1000 holes on both circuit boards. If the hole diameter of one board is greater than 0.2mm and the hole diameter of the other board is less than 0.2mm, different drilling costs will be formed; if the other two circuit boards are the same, but the line width and line spacing are different, one is greater than 4mil and the other is less than 4mil, it will also cause different production costs; secondly, there are some designs that do not follow the ordinary board process flow and are also charged extra, such as half holes, buried blind holes, holes in the plate, and keypad carbon oil printing.
4. Different copper foil thicknesses cause price diversity
Common copper foil thicknesses include: 18um (1/2OZ), 35um (1OZ), 70um (2OZ), 105um (3OZ), 140um (4OZ), etc. The higher the copper foil thickness, the more expensive it is.
5. Customer quality acceptance standards
Commonly used are: IPC2, IPC3, enterprise standard, military standard, etc. The higher the standard, the higher the price.
6. Mold fee and test stand
(1) Mold fee. For sample and small batch, the board factory generally adopts drilling and milling, and will not charge additional milling fee. When making large batch, it is required to open the mold to punch the board, so there is a set of mold fees. The board factory generally quotes 1,000 yuan or more.
(2) Test fee: Samples generally use flying probe testing, and the board factory generally charges a test fee ranging from 100 to 400 yuan; batches require a test stand for testing, and the board factory generally quotes a test stand between 1,000 and 1,500 yuan.
7. Price differences caused by different payment methods
The shorter the payment time, such as cash payment, the lower the price.
8. Order quantity/delivery time
(1) The smaller the quantity, the higher the price, because even if it is 1 PCS, the board factory must prepare engineering data and produce film, and all processes are indispensable.
(2) Delivery time: The data delivered to the PCB factory must be complete (GERBER data, number of layers of the board, board material, board thickness, surface treatment, ink color, character color and some special requirements must be clearly stated)
PCB is calculated by multiplying the area of the board by the following unit price, which can be used for your reference :
Technology:
Generally single-sided tin spraying: 0.035/square meter
Double-sided tin spraying: thickness above 1.2 is 0.45/square meter
below 1.2 is 0.41/square meter
Double-sided gold plating thickness above 1.6 is 0.48/square meter
below 1.6 is 0.45/square meter
PCB quotations include sample and batch board quotations
Sample quotations are divided into ordinary sample and fast board
The delivery time of ordinary sample depends on the number of layers. Single-sided generally takes one day, double-sided generally takes three days, and multi-layer takes several days to ten days.
The quotation is
Single-sided engineering fee 150 yuan + board making fee 0.04 yuan/square centimeter + film fee + 0.05 yuan/square centimeter
Double-sided engineering fee 250 yuan + board making fee 0.05 yuan/square centimeter + film fee + 0.05 yuan/square centimeter.
Four-layer board engineering fee 600 yuan + board making fee 0.01 yuan/square centimeter + film fee + 0.05 yuan/square centimeter.
Depending on the difficulty of the board, some factories will also add testing fees. The testing fee is generally 0.002 yuan/point
You need to provide the following technical documents to the PCB manufacturer:
(1) Gerber file
Gerber file is a standard file format for PCB design, containing information such as routing, pads, vias, etc. of each layer.
Make sure the Gerber file is complete and accurate.
(2) BOM (Bill of Materials)
The BOM lists the model, specification and quantity of all components on the PCB.
Help manufacturers understand the complexity and material requirements of PCBs.
(3) Assembly drawings
Assembly drawings show the layout and installation of components.
This is especially important for PCBA (PCB assembly) quotations.
(4) Special requirements
If there are special requirements (such as impedance control, high-frequency materials, special processes), they must be stated separately.
From the above discussion, it is not difficult to see that the diversity of the price of a PCB is due to its inherent factors. This article can only provide a rough price range for reference. Of course, you should contact the manufacturer directly for the specific price.
